So help me out here. This is what I usually do. I take this floppy disk which I get from a friend. I have no idea what's on it. I put that it, go to dos and a: format or something... and it wipes out everything.
then I stick the windows cd in and let it do it's magic.
With Xp I would do the same?
What is the Floppy for. That's what I don't get. Can't you just wipe out everything without the floppy and then install windows again?

You may have to change the boot order in the BIOS - but prolly not.
Have a read here first if in any doubt.

How do you wipe out everything and start off fresh?
I stuck in the xp cd and installed but it seems like garbage. All these windows keep popping up. the pages don't load properly. I think i got both 98 and Xp on here or something else is not right.
This is what I do, insert the floppy and then type the following:
A:format C:/q
A:E:
E:dir->setup
That wipes everything. How do I do that without the floppy?

What is my problem?
I want to install ME or Xp but I don't know what to do about drivers?
This person at work said with recent computers you need to download drivers. I use to just stick the windows cd in and let it do all the work. Even with my other computer I just stuck in the ME Cd and after 1 hour it was ready to go. I don't know about downloading drivers and stuff.
You are better of using 98 than ME.
Of course, XP Professional is a nice version.
But I believe that you might need a new computer instead, with a lot of RAM. You will usually te the O/S included with the new system.

could also be that your xp got already hacked during the installation. it has been shown to happen, and a friend of mine experienced it even with a 56k modem. it's best to install xp with your modem/cable/adsl whatever disconnected. and load security updates the first thing online, and maybe install zonealarm (free software firewall) or something like that.

I also dont' like using Xp with internet. The pages load so slowly and I don't like that green indicator going back and forth at the bottom.
