This one gets my rec.
for clarity, if any:
Right-click on the drive icon for your CD drive, CD recorder, or DVD drive, and select Properties.
Choose the AutoPlay tab, and choose the desired action for each type of CD. For example, choose Music CD, then click Select an action to perform, then select Take no action.

I.e. 'the solution'

Sorry for going off on a tangent, but does Win2K have it's own version off msconfig? I've tried to run it but it's not entertaining me.
On a similar note, you can use the Windows ME version of disk defragmenter on a Windows 98 computer and get MUCH faster performance during defrag.

anyway, since then, there's a reg patch available in this thread.
Are these 'reg patches' the future of tech support then? Instead of talking someone through the menu, just get them to visit a url and click the big download button?
seeing as how i have stumbled in on windows xp question and answer sesh, please can someone help me .... I have funked up my outlook express because lovely people at wanadoo made me download the new connection kit which they now think has corrupted my outlook ,its not recognising my logon and password, how would i go about getting new outlook express and do I lose all the addresses i have on my old one..???
Cheers ...dazed and confused

Originally posted by fiestaFirst of all, before you go any further, create a 'Restore' point. If you don't know how, ask.

Then, read this link: http://tinyurl.com/ua9v
(How to back up and recover Outlook Express data)
After backing up your mail, I would then read over the FAQs about the connection kit, which can be found at: http://tinyurl.com/e3w4f
If that doesn't solve it, you probaly should contact your tech support people. They *should* be the best to fix it quickly and I would hope at no cost to you.
If not, look in the Control Panel for Add or Remove Programs. Remove the offending Wanadoo software from the list. Reinstall it. Make sure you have your logon info, connection and program settings, etc.
As a side not, prob used as a last restort, if you are using a version of Windows that has a 'Restore' function (look for a 'Tools' folder in your Start Menu). Move yourself back to a point before the software was installed. Again, create a restore point of your own before making too many changes!
Finally, if you're open to trying something different, use Thunderbird email program. A fine replacement to OE. It's at mozilla.org
Hope that helps. You caught me with some time off. Anyone can feel free to error-check me.

The future is your computer will become more like a 'dumb terminal'.
You will boot to the internet. Save and recover files online.
If you have paid for your Microsoft Office, Microsoft Photoshop, Microsoft iTunes, Microsoft Email, ad nauseum* subscriptions, then those icons will be on your, ah-hem, Microsoft's desktop, your screen.
The advantages? You computer never crashes, you will never get a virus or spyware again, no one would want to hack you (your account however...), and software piracy will be all but eliminated. The desktop computer will cost us $99.
Of course, you'll pay for using your own computer like it were a utility service. Subscriptions for the home user will run well over $100 a month.
Sound grim? You'll be buying your groceries with your cell 'phone before then!
* People who say 'ad nauseum' make me sick.

(edit) Oh, and Google will be the servers for all this data.
