Please help.
I'm new to Winxp after years of sticking it out with win98.
The one thing that frustrates the crap out of me is the cd-autplay feature. I hate the fact that everytime I put a cd in the drive it automatically loads. It was easy to turn this off with 98, how do you do it with XP?

This could be the answer to my wife's continued playing of Robbie Williams CDs
🙂
If you go to the start menu, choose 'run' and type 'msconfig' then press enter you will get an interface which allows you to choose which programs load on startup. Click on the 'startup' or 'services' tab and deselect the one which autoplays etc. I'm afraid I can't remember what it is called, but a quick google search should tell you.
Hope this helps 🙂

In windows exporer, right click the CD drive (left hand panel), go to properties. You will see a window pop up with AutoPlay as a tab. Go there and fiddle with the settings (can't remember how)
for clarity, if any:
Right-click on the drive icon for your CD drive, CD recorder, or DVD drive, and select Properties.
Choose the AutoPlay tab, and choose the desired action for each type of CD. For example, choose Music CD, then click Select an action to perform, then select Take no action.

It's clear from the variety of "solutions" that few people in this thread are any more familiar with XP than HotCrotch.
Bowman again, with another useless post.
Here's something that will make turning off autoplay easier. It's a registry file. Just open it and it will disable autostart on your WinXP machine without you having to go into the settings of each drive and each type of media.

to turn it back on:

Sorry for going off on a tangent, but does Win2K have it's own version off msconfig? I've tried to run it but it's not entertaining me.
