...how would i go about getting new outlook express and do I lose all the addresses i have on my old one..???
And you really shouldn't be asking for help when you take such risks to begin with.
That sounds grimmer than grim. I mean what's the point in having a PC if you can't get something for nothing? Of course, That is the way MS would like it all to go. MS's first attempt at a permanently logged on OS, Windows longhorn, seemed to fall flat on it's face though. Never even got off the ground. As long as the likes of Linux exist, we will be able to fend off a dumb terminal existence. Ya boo sucks to Bill Gates.
Originally posted by arrakisyeah, found that out at my work comp. Know any utility that does it?
Win2000 doesn't have the msconfig program, nor to my knowledge a similar program like it. Also, when using Win2k, you have to give yourself administrator rights before making changes in the system. 🙁
I found a site called sysinternals that has bunches of utilities and
other stuff, great site, but nothing to emulate msconfig. Wonder why.
One nice utility from the sysinternals site is called TCPview.
It allows you to watch whats coming and going on the internet site
you are currently tuned in to. I have a home recording studio based
on Cakewalk (Sonar 4) and figured out multiple monitors are great
for audio recording, video too I suppose, not into that ATT, so found
having one monitor on the website of choice and another monitor
using TCPview allows you to see the entire website screen without the
interferance of the TCPview window which in the midsized screen still
takes up half the screen. You get to see eveything coming and
going into your IE or whatever in real time. Its very dynamic, looking at
all the stuff coming and going, like pop ups, ads, etc. They come and
go, very informative. If you don't know its there you don't have a good
chance to fix it.
Originally posted by ravenswoodI had a look at http://windowsxp.mvps.org/reg/Disable_CD_Autorun.reg and I have no idea what it's all about. I tried the right click on cd drive in explorer thing and I turned off all the autoplay options for all the 'file types' that xp likes to autoload before I began this thread. The truth is that certain cds with an autoplay file on them still load automatically (e.g. games cds, application cds).
This one gets my rec.
for clarity, if any:
Right-click on the drive icon for your CD drive, CD recorder, or DVD drive, and select Properties.
Choose the AutoPlay tab, and choose the desired action for each type of CD. For example, choose Music CD, then click Select an action to perform, then select Take no action.

Maybe it's just me and my magic index finger, but holding down the shift button seems to work really well with cds that I don't want to autoplay.
(My index finger really is magical, I can prove it)
