I think it's less the "absence of Christianity" and more the "presence of Sharia law".

But you know, it's their country, they can run it as they see fit. And women of other countries have to ask themselves if they want to take the risk.

Just more atrocities against women based on religion. How many millions of women would be real people if it were not for the ravages of religion?

what does this have to do with their decision to do such things when they get older?

The answers on this page you link only scratch the surface as to the whys of this. Entire books have been written about this phenomenon. A little Google goes a long way.

I've told you before and I'm not going to stop telling you that it is NOT 'religion', per se. It is the evil men involved in those religions. Yes, they use religion as an excuse, but that is the action of evil men. The religion is not responsible for the actions of evil men.

Edit: And I'm not sure exactly what you mean here. Those millions of women are still 'real people' whether or not they are abused.

I rarely say this to people, but you are an idiot if you believe this.

WTF does this have to do with women or Dubai, anyways?

Well, sonhouse thinks he has landed on the moon here but when we look at the facts between this and what actually happens in the US there is very little difference. He hasn't gone from some superior place to atrocities but it is the same place where the rapist in America gets away with it and the women still goes to jail. He is still on the earth... the same one you live in.

You shouldn't even be on the ballpark with a 5 percent stirke rate and the tens of thousands of women you have let down but he is a teacher.... please.

My parents worked in Saudi also and my mom went and my brother. They never left the compound as far as I know. It is a closed community, those compounds. I remember my dad telling the story of the compound getting a 50 pound shipment of bacon or even more, a Saudi just grabbed the whole shipment and my brother was there, witnessed the whole thing and the dude grabbed a big knife and said something like, you got a problem?

My family and I lived in Israel for 4 years and I saw the hatred up close and personal like when a bomb went off in an American embassy somewhere, I was in Bethlehem at the time and saw the Palestinians go nuts with jubilation, shooting guns in the air and such. We quietly left.

I also got a hate look when I asked a Palestinian oud player if he gave lessons. I took that as a know, at least for Americans.

Then again, I had some dear friends on the Palestinian side, the Abadyu family were great friends. You just didn't want to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Dubai sucks. Has anyone here heard of the recent incident of Professor Cyril Karabus, a 70 something South African doctor and one of the pioneers of pediatric oncology. He arrived in Dubai on a business trip and was arrested upon arriving at the airport. The airline had failed to inform him that he been convicted [b]IN ABSENTIA[/b} for the "murder" of a three year old Yemeni girl in 2002.

What really happened was: Karabus treated the girl for Leukemia and could not save her. She later died. The parents then pursued the Arab tradition of blood money. You would think that the judge would laugh this one out of his court on account of ridiculousness but again, the judge was ALSO Arabic. The poor old man was thrown in jail. It took 9 months and many threats and protests from the South African government for the UAE to finally release him.

Well now three major hospital chains have pulled out of the UAE because they can't have their doctors at risk of going to jail if a patient dies(A daily occurrence),leaving the UAE critically short of doctors. If you're a doctor you'll get payed an absolute fortune to have a practice in the UAE but you'll spend it all on lawyers.

    Moral: Don't live in Dubai.

Where do you suggest to live Johannesburg!?

At least in Dubai you don't have to live in an armed fortress. Or a place where they fight over the not yet dead body of a hero who spent years in jail for the crime of fighting the racism that you are.

The majority of posters here are purely opinionated, and have never set foot out of their own country, part a holiday vacation spot.

The atrocities against women are not all religiously based, and I'd hasten to add 'cultural'!

What goes on in reality, aside of estimated events, is sickening.

I also include Thailand in this, in all honesty, apart from many Asian, African, and American countries.

As Suzi said, do a bit of googling, if you can be bothered to comment upon the reality of events. Start with acid attacks in India, and women trafficking in asia, and then visit your home countries, and see what's happening on your own back door-step!!

At what point do you just say the religion is to blame when nearly 100% of a country acts like that? It goes beyond the 'few evil men' argument I think. Of course culturally they behave that way too but the religion reinforces it as cut in stone.

You aren't defending women but your racist views of religion. You don't care about women but your anti Muslim rants.

If you did you would take note that in America only 5 percent of rapists get caught and do something about it but people like you, with preconceived ideas never get to the truth. You consider yourself smart and superior but 5 percent is poor.

Why don't you deal with that? You live there vote in the democractic elections and actually have a say.

Are Muslim women worth more to you in your drunken state than a western woman?

Is religion really to blame or are people, America included, all just really stupid.

I treat all religions equally, I am an equal opportunity hater. I want freedom FROM religion. When people don't have the crutch of religion their true cultural roots start showing and that at least is amenable. Media exposure can change cultural things like the genital mutilation of women in Africa and other places is going away, slowly of course but less and less each generation.

With religion, nothing changes, when people show the inequities, they just dig in deeper. That is the way of religion. Pathological stubbornness.

I think your rape numbers are a bit extreme to show your own bias. You are saying for every rape reported 20 go unreported? Not in MY town. I have had to deal with rape in our own family and THAT dude is still doing time.
