Sadly I ask:

After the worst performance in a competitive fixture in two decades, does Ireland stand a chance of defeating the Swiss on Wednesday?

If only! We'd give Macedonia such a thrashing... (Or maybe we'd just win 1-0, and have to defend for 80 minutes)

Switzerland and Ireland? There's got to be a gag in there about remaining neutral...

Will Australia beat the fifth-placed South American team twice (or maybe draw twice but score more away goals) and qualify for the first time since 1974?

I am from Wales and we never say DIE 🙂 and when England, Brazil, Italy and the other's play in the world cup, the Welsh team play in the "who can grow the bigest leek competition".
Ryan Giggs grew a 1' 2" leek last time 😀

I've never groaned so much watching a game of football as I did during that game. Using the marks out of system to rate the players, I'd have to say that Shay Given is the only player who gets a positive number with an outstanding performance. Graham Kavanagh definately wins the "Biggest waste of space on the pitch" award. I'd give him -10, and a 1 way train ticket to Wigan.

Its saying something when David Connolly comes on for 5 minutes, and does enough to be the best Irish outfield player.

I'm hoping that we get a good result Wednesday, but I'm not holding my breath.

As Norm from Cheers might say, if he was supporting Ireland in tonight's qualifier against the Swiss, having observed our recent form, and returned from the away game in Nicosia: 'Aww crep'.

As I might say:

Come on ye Boys in Green!

I hope they want it enough to pull this one out of the hat.
