i predict that a team will win the world cup, and when england get knocked out they will blame it on sven not caring and that the referee was an utter and complete idiot.

oh and england will lose in a penalty shootout against someone

Oh please. if you win the group you'll play Germany, then either Argentina/Holland or Mexico/portugal. If you somehow win you'll the play either Czech Republic/Italy/Brazil or Switzelrand/ Korea/Span or Ukraine. If you win that you'll play France which you'll definately lose. Even if Rooney comes back
I think if they win the group they'll play Poland (2nd placed team, Germany will win the group). Then I think they will win the 1/4 final, as I reckon they will play Serbia, as I don't believe Holland will make it out of the group.

Remember 1988? Ahh the memories. Ray Houghton. Stuttgart. Get in there!

In the summer of 1988, Houghton was in the Ireland squad which had reached its first ever major finals, the European Championships in West Germany. The first group game was against England and it was Houghton who scored with an early looping header to win the game 1-0.

I mean, that more than makes up for not qualifing this time. People getting all excited about the football in Germany- well, 'been there, done that!' I say! Zounds!! It doesn't get any better than that- everything else would just be an anti-climax.

But, by the by, my team to win, as ever: the Mighty Togo![b]

Togo To-Go alltheway!!!

It's only natural that teams and their fans are 'over the moon' when they get the rare win against England, who after all are the inventors of the game and also usually have the greatest team. [results alone don't always tell the whole story] The referees nearly always take the side of their opponents cause they realise they need help to make a game of it. 😏

Serbia Montenagro(45th Ranked) is way worse than Holland(3rd ranked) and Cote D'ivorie(32nd ranked). But Holland v. Argentina will be a good match to watch. 4:30am Thursday 22nd of June on SBS Australia.

Woah, woah, woah! England didn't create or 'invent' the game. It Was France. Fifa stands for "Federation Internationale de Football Association. But I do agree about results being not the only part of the story. And yes some refs take the side of their team. But not the majority. Also to ad on. France are almost certainly through to the Round of 16. That is the easiest group. The only challenge will be Korea. But still pretty easy. P.S. I'm not a 'frog'(no offence france)

Yeah, and USA are 5th ranked, and got beaten by Morocco, who are 36th ranked! The rankings don't mean much, especially due to the really underdefined weightings, which means North American teams seem a lot higher than they really are, and the opposite for European teams. Next you will be telling me that the US are more fancied to qualify from their group than Italy because they're 8 places ahead in the rankings!

In Serbia & Montenegro, we are talking about a team who conceeded one goal in 10 qualifying games. Holland did well in qualifying too, I know, but it is very close between the two teams, and I think Serbia will edge it. In addition, the Holland team has some strange selections, including the emission of Huntelaar (the form Dutch striker) in favour of Vennegoor of Hesselink.

Bah- our first finals (European, please note above poster bloke, not you, so 1988 was right- it's all there in my first post...) and we defeat the English. You're quite correct- it doesn't get any better. I wouldn't say 'usually have the greatest team', either, but rather the team most people would like to beat. As a modern soccer nation, you'd be scraping it to get into the top 10, certainly behind Italy, Brasil, France, Argentina, Germany, Spain, Czech Republic, Croatia, Samoa, Scilly Islands, Ancona, Smallteria and the People's Republic of Quatanga.
