For a summer beer I have just found an awesome independant called 'Birds and Bees' by Williams Brothers of Scotland - it's a golden summer ale of real thirst quenching zest.
If you are ever in Cockermouth, I recommend a tour of Jenning's brewery. It costs five pounds and you get to sample the beers in the brewery bar at the end of the tour. Parts of the original brewery still exist and it really is quite interesting. If you go out of season then they tend to be more generous with the free samples at the end, as there are less thirsty people to please.
I have friends who run a brewery in Manchester and they produce some wonderful beers. Keep your eyes peeled for Bazens Brewery beers.
My current choice of beer... Leffe blonde.
