Come On Pilgrim - Pixies
Music for the Masses - Depeche Mode
Licensed to Ill - Beastie Boys
It also marked the end of the Smiths and Wham! and the formation of Nirvana.
As for SAW...3 words: Sigue Sigue Sputnik. 🙂

I disagree with your statement ... 80's get a lot of good bands : U2 , REM , INXS , Cure , Depeche Mode, The Cult, Echo & the Bunnymen, Siouxie & the Banshees, Talk Talk, Talking Heads, New Order, Clash, The Smiths, and a long etc !
Its a matter of taste I know but it was undoubdtedly a good decade for music !
REM suck, but Michael Stipe is okay, shame he doesn't do his own stuff more.
INXS suck.
The Cure were good in their time, their current stuff is debatably average.
Depeche Mode were good, but have lost some of their former glory.
The Cult suck.
Echo & the Bunnymen suck.
Siouxie & the Banshees were good, but now suck.
Talk Talk? Puhlease.
Talking Heads were good, but David Byrne is better on his own.
New Order were good, now suck.
Clash formed in 1976 and whilst great to start with, by the 80s had begun to suck.
The Smiths are great.
It is a matter of taste, but for the small percentage of good bands that did come out of the 80s, there was a massive amount of trash. The 80s set music back 20 years in my opinion. Too much electronica, too much coke and too many awful hair styles.
Great albums came from the 80's:
Nebraska (Sprinsteen)
The river (Springsteen)
The Smiths albums
Pack up the plantation live (Petty)
To name but a few that spring to mind without even thinking.
As for songs....
One of the greatest songs with the greatest intros EVER came from the 80's: One night in Bangkok by Murrayhead.
Now obviously, nothing compares in greatness to the 70's with Boney M, ABBA and the Ramones.
I reckon the worst year for music would have to have been 1935.
That's when Germany started producing those god-almighty nasty propaganda hip-slappin' yoddlin' music.
