Mine, quite simply, has always been the ever present prospect of incipient BLINDSPOTS... believing you see something clearly (regarding absolute truth, people you care about, life situations, your own motivations, world affairs and, yes, even chess board positions) but because of the perpetual blur of distraction and hyper subjectivity not really even or ever seeing the darn thing in its true light at all.
("Prefer the pain/ of knowing/ to the pleasures/ of ignorance,/ the risk of being/ right to every/ temporal security/ of being wrong." anon). Ignorance breeds delusion, disorientation, separation, compensatory behavior, unnecessary suffering and self induced misery. Self justification, self deception and self absorption still reign as the all time top three arrogance skills. Lucifer wrote the book.
Note: In the interest of 20/20, let me be quick to note the ulterior purpose for this post... to hopefully deflect attention away from the ill advised invitation, "Let's Compose a Chess Poem", which in my view became a lead balloon and sadly fell far short of expectation. Truth, it was a colossal bust! Ashamed to have initiated the thread. Period.

My biggest fear is being forgotten, and to find out that all the things I tried to do to make this world a better place and to help people in need were meaningless. Oh, that's two things. My two biggest fears are being forgotten, finding out that all the things I tried to do to make this world a better place and to help people in need were meaningless, and the Spanish Inquisition. Wait. That's three things. 😉
