It means that you get 5 extra seconds per move. If you use less than 5 seconds on one move, the time you haven't used will be added to your game time. If you'd use exactly 5 seconds on each move, your game time would stay at 5 minutes all the time. If you use more than 5 seconds on one move, the game time starts depleting.

In a 5/0 blitz, you have 5 minutes for the entire game.

In a 5/5 blitz, you have 5 minutes for the entire game however you are credited with 5 seconds after every move you make. So, you could potentially end the game with more time then you commenced with.

Anyone has problems with the blitz page?
I keep loosing the internet connection (get a message that explorer has encountered a problem and has to shut down- that only happens when I play blitz- very annoying)

Yeah, I just tried to go there and a little red circle with an X in it comes up inside an envelope! I thought perhaps the answer would be on this site

Does a Blitz game affect my rating?

No.

Currently blitz games are not rated - there is a plan (I believe) to add ratings, but these would be separate from your correspondence rating.
