Texas was never taken from Mexico by the US, if I know your history correctly. Texas was a nation of its own for a decennium or something before it became one of the states of US. Right?

When I briefly lived in Austin, there seemed to be some confusion. People missed the memo about no longer being an independent nation, apparently.
