What to hell is Eriksson thinking? How can Theo Walcott make the squad before the leading English goalscorer in the premiership, especially considering the fact that 2 of the 4 strikers are currently crocks, and 1 is Crouch.

How can Campbell make the squad ahead of Wes Brown? Brown has been United's best defender this season. Campbell's been rubbish. Brown also supplies excellent cover at right back.

Sven's an idiot. Unless he wins the world cup and Theo scores 8, then he's just a lucky idiot 🙂

Er, who's Theo Walcott?

I rate Sven, but this time he HAS to prove his worth.

A 17 year old, who hasn't played a minute for Arsenal since his move from Southampton.

im guessing hes had his bday then now, moved when he was 16 anyway. He should be nowhere near the squad, same with Hargreaves, he's a lump lol he hardly ever plays for Bayern and still gets into the England squad, when there are loads better than him. A few dodgy decisions in there for certain!

It wouldn't make a scrap of difference if we had ANY other manager. The team has an injury jinx. Whoever Sven chosses as a replacement will either get injured, or will play crap, it's a simple fact of life. Supporting England is like slowly lowering your hand into a watse disposal, removing it periodically to add salt. One month ago i thought we had good chances and that maybe, just maybe, we'd be at full strength at the World cup for the first time in my life time. More the fool me! (Sorry if this sounds overly negative, but everytime i think about it i get all moody 🙁)

If Greece can win Euro 2004, we should not give up hope. Sometimes you don't need to be the best to win.

Maybe he's just choosing the worst team possible so they'll have the underdog advantage. 🙂

I know there's a logic there...somewhere.

4 strikers

one is injured and won't play
one hasn't played in months and has no fitness
one hasn't played in the premiership and only scored 5 league goals (and is 17)
our only hope lies with the one who has scored 8 league goals in 32 games.

Do you think he'll play Joe Cole in Rooney's place?

That's an interesting option. Joe has been in wicked form this season. He has really proved his worth if anyone has.

Jeez, you guys- stop moaning and think for a bit!

1) Hargreaves IS a regular for Bayern, and has outshone Ballack in the second half of this season, after coming back from injury. He does not play very well for England as he plays out of position, and gets very little time to settle in. Just like when Andy Johnson was stuck out on the wing when he played. He is quality if he plays his natural position, and also impressed when covering at LB for Bayern.

2) Ronaldo was taken to the WC in '94 when he was 17, for the experience, so why not do it to Walcott. Agreed, we need more strikers who are fit to try this, but if Owen and Rooney aren't fit, then the replacements get called up anyway. He couldn't have done it the other way around and then having to drop someone for Walcott if Rooney was fit, and he has up until 1 day before the 1st game to change the squad with the back-ups. With Roonay out, it makes sense to add a replacement who is unknown and may provide a big of an extra spark. Walcott hasn't played before he was 17 for insurance reason's I've heard, so maybe Arsenal are just wanting to give him the time to gel with the squad more before letting him loose.

3) Why is Campbell there?I'd rather see Wes Brown in the team.

4) Drop Jenas, bring in another striker, preferably Ashton, Bent just doesn't strike me as someone who is really good enough for England (neither does Crouch, however, but he has a role to play in a 4-4-2)

5) Nice to see Lennon there, he has been on fire of late, and to be honest I don't think SWP deserves to be ahead of him. Serves him right for money grabbing.

6) David James will not play at the WC barring a disaster, he will be 3rd choice keeper (or maybe 5th choice striker!) so the most important thing (apart from the fact he can keep) is that he helps the team spirit, and is probably a popular and familiar face in the squad.

7) If Rooney and/or Owen don't recover, a 4-5-1 will be played, so the striker problem isn't as bad as it appears, as another one will be swapped for one of the other two if they don't look like being fit.

So yes, it's not brilliant, but it's not as bad as everyone thinks!
