How are Americans viewed?

I'm noticing more and more stereotypes about Americans as I meet more foriegners, esp. from Europeans. How are we yanks viewed?

I've seen alot of Fat, impolite, self centered, ignorant to others...
The thing I hate the most is that the wealthiest 3 people in America are individually richer than the 48 poorest nations ...combined😠 😠

I have not really seen positive opinions though :'(

Here are positive ones:

Although generalizations suck (good or bad), the American's drive is
amazing and erect oasis in the middle of the desert.

Americans are also great to spot and recruit talent.

Americans are damn funny.

And what they appear to really be, are patriots. Being proud is one thing, but being obsessed with it and try to show it in almost every possible way, showing a silly thing as a flag on all kinds of attributes or hanging them around on lots of buildings really gives me the creeps...

(But then again, this is only based on photograps, series and news articles)

Oh, the silly arms laws make me wonder about intelligence too, I must add. But then again, they will say the same thing about the Dutch drug laws...

Damn, the US is so extended and diverse that it is really sad that
generalization fall so fast.

The fact that the large progressist and humanistic sectors of the US
do not hit the screens all the time, does not mean they are not
there, giving the fight against the now-dominant reactionary forces.

If I made my judgement based on what the UK media feeds me - I guess it would be 'egotistic, loud, insular, overconfident, war hungry, obese, gun- wielding over emotional serial killers.
But like so many things in life, the reality presented by the many Americans I have met is the exact opposite. Although they were all educated, and over here to study, or to make a rather prosperous career, every one of them has been spot on.
I haven't met the American ignorant masses, but from very real personal experience, the ignorant masses are a shocking bunch regardless of nationality. Certainly the majority of the Brits I deal with wouldn't be missed by the gene pool 🙂

Sorry, but at the moment I still think, at the moment, that the USA, generally, is more right-wing than Europe.

That's the problem with generalisations though, it often isn't true in a lot of cases.

They can't spell propally and they think everyone who isn't American is a foreigner. 🙄

I got one of those emails from a guy who wanted a 'foreign investor' to help him get some cash out of the country. I emailed him back, and all I said was, "I'm not foreign, I'm an American!"

I laughed and laughed driving home, and laughed even harder the next day when he emailed me back saying, "Great, I think we can work something out."

God, those guys are persistent.
