Marijuana can actually stimulate your mind and heighten your creative thinking process, so it can help you be more creative in your chess... but if you smoke too much it will make you forgetful as you cannot concentrate as easily.
I've read some studies that show that marijuana can be beneficial to creative though processes and many prominent thinkers both past and present have admitted to smoking weed... off the top of my head I know Carl Sagan smoked weed... but as for chess players, I don't think it would be too helpful lol

I don't know about alcohol or pot but I frequently use: acid, mushrooms, and peyote when playing.
I find that it helps me become one with each of the pieces and understand that even the lowliest pawn does have feelings. Also it is easier to anticipate your opponents moves if you can uphold a dialog with their pieces.
Those must be some extremely tense games, being able to converse with the pieces and all!

It is easier to play here than otb considering you have no opponent to witness transmogrifying into a demon when you slay one of their minions. I recommend that you and everyone else try it someday.

Generally I'd give him a generous time spot to make the games competitive, and we'd put a small wager on each game. Anyway, an interesting pattern would occur. I'd give him a string of poundings, then all of the sudden, after he smoked some hashish, he'd win one, or even two very creatively played games in a row. So It certainly seems that there could indeed be some benefits of drugs, in the short-term. And I do stress short-term here. Everyone I know who is a regular drug user in our club, including my former flat mate, is weaker than they were years ago, while I've steadily gained elo.
I was just wondering, I had heard before that people actually play better when they've drank a little bit. However, I notice its similar with Marijuana too, if you've had very very little. B then, if I have too much I've had problems. I was wondering if anybody else has smoked and tried to play chess, and if they can actually do it? Any other forgetful smokers around here?

If you have a little then that may help to focus your mind, by iff you get stoned or drubnk, then moves tend to be very all over the place
