I was just wondering, I had heard before that people actually play better when they've drank a little bit. However, I notice its similar with Marijuana too, if you've had very very little. B then, if I have too much I've had problems. I was wondering if anybody else has smoked and tried to play chess, and if they can actually do it? Booze, hash & chess???
You've got to be kidding!
the two together +chess is harder than one or the other...for sure
but it seems like a little bit of marijuana and chess isn't bad...
and a very little bit of alcohol and chess doesn't seem to hurt either....
but add them together and i'm sure your trippin a little to hard to be playing chess... As exegentsky said it may not enhance your abilities any, but I think it may help your concentration to stay for a longer period of time...which can help you play better.
I'm wondering if anyone other than myself has played while influenced at all...?

Originally posted by exigentskyi don't know that caffeine has ever really helped my focus...maybe my alertness... weed is rather well known to make you focus on one thing extremely deeply (tripping)....

Alcohol...may impair judgement, but also makes you braver...something that may or may not help in a game...
I did take ecstasy and play chess once. I was making my moves before my opponents could finish theirs and beating them all very quickly, but they were weaking than me at the best of times anyway and I think they might have been intimidated by my playing speed and a false belief that I'd turned into some kind of chess machine on drugs.

I'm a good Division 3 player in the OTB evening league but last year I had to be a board filler in the 1st division, as I was going to get hammered anyway I drank (quite a bit). I got a 50% score over the year and played 2 of my best games ever against 2 players twice my grade.

I put this down to the fact sober I play conservatively but fresh I played balls out attacking chess. It can help but I do still try and play sober if I can.
