I give up, but I am curious, what IS the answer?

Again it's just drawish at best for white, because black can start checking after 1. Ng4 Qxg4 2. f8=Q Qg5+.

Did you find it independently or resort to a computer?

I have a lot of puzzles if anyone would like another. Just let me know if you'd like one harder or easier.

No computer. I did read what others posted about white having to avoid perpetual check, though. Protecting the pawn seemed like a logical way to solve that problem. Cool puzzle!

That one was amazing, I was looking at promoting the pawn to a Knight or something, but that's an awesome puzzle. You seem to be a good tactician, we should have a game sometime, maybe when I free a spot up i'll send you an invite.

    White to move.

Does he win, lose . . . or draw?
    white wins with 1.Ne4!!

very hard puzzle, and still I am not sure if I missed something. The main point is that after 1...Qf3 white distracts black queen with 2.f8=Q.

EDIT: in fact after 2...Qxf8 3.Nf6 Qxf6!! 4.exf6 gxf6 black seems to win after all.

    EDIT2: missed 5.f4! white wins

yeah, that works. It's something that's easier to spot if you know it's a puzzle and not a real game. I probably wouldn't have seen that in a game

    Yes it's a total delight, isn't it?

I actually am in the process of cutting down my number of correspondence games to nil, both here and on another site. So thanks for the offer, but to protect my OTB standard I've decided to focus on that for the time being.

Ok, I will find an easier one I think this time in a moment...

Ok, you might have seen this one before, since it's from an Anderssen-Anonymous game. White to move. How should the game go?

    I don't see the benefit of 2. f8=Q, because I can't find a win for white after 2...QxQ. (3. c3+ is losing after Kxe5).
