This probably gets asked a 1000 times, but is there any chess program that is free on the net that helps you play better chess? I have at least 20 chess programs on my computer and all of them have trials and it’s kind of annoying!
www.freeechess.org
This is the Free Internet Chess Server... but wait I wanted free training you say...
Get the latest beta of babaschess http://www.babaschess.net/ to work on FICS.
not only can you have an engine (like Rybka or TogaII, Crafty etc..) examine the games you play you can also enjoy Lecturebot... (an automated teacher that offers free lectures on the site, text only)
With Babaschess there is an addon that will do text to speach for all the text ingame so Lecturebot will actually speak to you. Very useful lectures on all types of subject on there.
aside from that I know of more useful demos best available is www.personalchesstrainer.com

Marvellous GUI, vast array of options. It will improve your game in no time.
Best of all, it's completely free.
If you can't find it on the above site, pm me and I'll try to find a link that works.
Good luck...

You can download it from
http://www.rebel.nl/decrel.htm
Note: a word of advice, it runs on DOS, so if you aren't using an OS compliant with DOS 5.0, you are out of luck.
I think w2000 (and below) would run it, but never tried it under XP.
Cheers.
