I was playing CroCrew a couple of games. Both looked pretty interesting, getting near a turning point. I happened to check out the banned list and to my amazement, CroCrew had been banned for engine use. His rating is now about 2000. If you take a gander at his graph you'll know why he was suspect. Anyway, he was still up on my opponent board with his turn to move and the time was running down. I thought to myself, it'd be nice to get his points but it doesn't sound logical to garner points from someone who accumulated them through cheating. A few minutes ago he timed out. And...nothing. No skull and crossbones, nothing. Hmmm. Then a few minutes later I checked and a two tiny pink circular signs had appeared in the action column. Inside the circles was something that could be a pawn or a penguin or a man waiting for the firing squad or, even more significant, a number 8. When i put my mouse over the "8 ball" the message read, "Opponent banned--please wait." Curioser and curioser. What am I waiting for? I don't know. Maybe Russ is making up his mind. Surely this sort of thing has happened before. What happens to the rating points of someone who is banned. It's like your favorite uncle is being hanged for murder, but he is leaving you a million bucks. You just can't help feeling a little guilty, but you'd take the money anyway, right?

yeah, I'm kindof wondering. I have a game with Anacondastan, who was banned, possibly tanned, in the land of hands... and now it's my opponent's move and nothin doin... it's like having a corpse stashed in the corner of your bedroom.

Yea, Anacondastan is the latest to go down in flames. Look at his chart, talk about obvious. It looks like he was tired of being 11, 1200 and decided, what the heck, i want to be a 2000 player. I mean the improvements of Anacondastan and CroCrew are so obvious, Russ could probably write code that would detect massive improvement that would trigger an investigation, it's that easy to see. Still nothing on eight ball. I'm interested. What did they do before? I mean banned people go all the way back to September 2005. What did they do with the points then? Just give them to opponents? Maybe Russ is considering another alternative.

Banned players will forfeit all their active games. Anyone playing against them will win the games, but will not benefit from an increase in their ratings. In tournaments or clan matches, you will get the points for the win.
I assume this is quite a tricky process for Russ, and not just the case of pressing a "terminate" button. Although he might well be working on a "Terminate" button... programmed while listening to the sinister organ music of Dr Fibes...

My game against him isn't on his graph, so I presume it was his last to finish. All his other losses state that they were lost by TO. Mine was a resignation accompanied with the message "Player banned - game resigned"??
