I don't know why but I prefer the bishop for some reason I like lining one of them up with my queen and also knights aren't usually the pinners bishops are. It really does depend on the situation but for now I prefer my bishops.

i prefer bishops over knight because it has a longer range...but i hate defending attacks made by opponent's knights, so as much as possible i take it out early in the game...

if only i can learn how to use those damn horses, id be invincible...well not really invincible, but id be a better player i guess....

It's like asking if hammers or saws are more effective. It depends on the job you have to do.

Anyway yeah. This thread has been bled dry so I will jump on the band wagon. All depends on the situation you are in. During the opening gameit is important to get both out as you know. Both has its own role to play. During the middle game i would say that they are prety much equal. Depending on what your strategy is of course. Both pieces can get into places where the other can't. Bishop has the long range advantage where as the knight can attack any other piece on the board without being threatened back and the only way to waive its threat is to take it or move. You cannot block the little ^&*&^%.
Finally, in the end game, this is what makes all the difference between them, the pawn structure truly dfines which piece is the better of the two. Two or three pawns spread across the board then its gotta be a bish cos it can zoom between situATIONS QUICKLY . CAPS LOCK OOPS! A small huddle of pawns, especially in the middle of the board then its gotta be your knight cos it has all its possible moves available and can attack both colours wheere as a bish is restricted to either black or white. Shammone He heeeeeeee.

although it depends on the situation, i would say that in general a bishop is better than a knight. in a blitz game without too much thought i will almost instantly give up a knight for a bishop. and, most strong chess engines give a bishop an initial value of 3.25 and the knight a value of 3. Of course in certain situation the knight is better but in certain situations a knight is better than a queen or a pawn better than a rook. If i could play a game starting with 4 bishops and no knights i definitely would.
