I think you may be boxing above your weight. You need to familiarise yourself with the basic fundamentals of chess before concentrating on strategy, judging by the game you just posted.

Originally posted by chessisvanityI read them at 1200 and it jumped me to where I am now. Then again, I rarely dropped pieces due to tactics at that point, so perhaps the rating would have gone up anyway, but I'm sure it increased my understanding of the game.
those books are for 1700+ who hit a wall and want to surpass it....
at your rating you should be visualy solving tactics

Reassess your chess and the workbook. See you in a year. 🙂
I read the book, 2 year ago about - 230 pages, almost the whole book. Had to return in back to our club library.
I'm working on the workbook right now. Page 85, problem 30ish. Great book. I'll read the book again onces i'm done the workbook.
Are you just reading the book or are you doing problems from the workbook at the same time?

Just reading the book right now so I can better understand how to do the problems. The book suggests reading it every 6 months to grasp new concepts you'll find in it.
Well to me the workbook is a standalone. It doesn't rely heavily on the book except for the imbalance thing.
But the workbook does contain 20-30 page on how to solve the problem and that's enough to get through them.
I really like it so far.
And yes the book had to be read more then once to fully understand everything. I say even 2100 players can learn from it. It's just that great.
Originally posted by deeploserI just got to annotate 10 games Problem 120-130 I think and I'll be done the workbook. Really good.
My head is about to explode...
On part 4 chapter 4. Not even half way through it yet. Learning a lot about the game. We'll see if I can put some of it into practice.
Then I will start reading Reassess you chess.
I borrow it from the club 2 years ago and read till page 220 I think. Lots of good stuff but some was over my head. Hopefully it makes more sense now and help me out more.
Originally posted by deeploserThat's always the time consumer in chess books, imo. It can be frustrating at times. Sometimes the variations atually show something instructive, but a lot of times they can be skipped and referred to later if necessary. I prefer to play the main line and just take note of the games I'd like to play through fully if necessary.
It's a little slow go by playing through all the variations but the games are annotated very well so you know exactly what's going on.
What do you use to follow the games? I sometimes use multiple instances of Scid/ChessDB, Fritz or small analysis chess boards. Depends on my mood.
