Simon Williams seems to be the favourite to take the lead, looking at the current position.
Well Conquest has just played Bxh7+. In my experience 98% of games where White plays Bxh7+ end up as wins for White.

I'll show you some of my games where Bxh7+ went wrong.
98% of them failed.

Yeah Jack's game was all over the place jumping from plan
to plan - nice play by Kolbus though - tactically spot on/
Just an off day for Jack I guess.

Keith Arkell has won another nicely played game to put himself back in contention.

Rudd's game was horrible, wasn't it? He just seemed to be moving the same few pieces again and again in the opening and ended up a pawn down for absolutely nothing.
Was he celebrating his third IM norm last night perhaps?

That puts Conquest as clear leader overnight - I would be quite happy for him to win, he has a great surname, and also a nice brave style of play.

I've really enjoyed Conquest's games so far, and Jones' as well. I'd be very happy for either of them to win.

Great chess names - As well as loads of Kings, Whites, Knights etc. some appropriate names that come to mind are Savage, Sachs and, my favourite, William De Ath.

I also recall a quote of my chess playing friend, Roy Brown, who said, ala Bogoljubov: "When I am White I win because I am White. When I am Black I win because I am Brown".

Williams-Conquest tomorrow on top board should be tasty.

In other news I hope Lee Davis wins in round 11 to finish off a tricky fortnight for him (including a loss today in round 10)

David James is much better than several of the people who have already beaten Lee Davis. It's a two point upfloat for Davis, and he has the black pieces!

I hope this game gets shown live:
19 Lyell, Mark............. 2232 (5) ..... Ynojosa, Felix Jose..... 2101 (5)

I used to belong to the same chess club as Mark. I once made the mistake of insulting the Kings Gambit and he thrashed me ten blitz games on the trot starting 1.e4 e5 2.f4 exf4 3.Nc3 until I ran home crying for my mummy.

David Tebb lost to John Sugden in the Major Open.

Sugden has a tough last round game, Black against a very good junior, George Salimbeni. Salimbeni's grade has increased by 97 points in four years, if he keeps this up he will be World Champion before he is twenty.

I dont fancy mark lyells chances much, with ynojosa probably playing well over 2300 strength already.

So, do you want a little wager on the game?

I played Salimbini right at the end of last season. Naturally I got a good tonking.

He was officially rated in the 150s at the time but of course that was nearly a year out of date by the time we played. His new grade is in the 170s I think.

Maybe but Sugden only needs a draw, although it is true Vasli could then tie for first place with a win.
