But these are mates in 5, so there must be something White can do to delay it another move. It looks like a3 was not as good as I though it was. Good job.

So is the trick solution that greenpawn34 gives below what you meant?

1. Nc6 Kxd3 {because your clue means White MUST take the rook sac} 2. Nxb4+ Ke2 3. Qh5+ Ke1 4. First, you prompt a response from GP...
Second, he responds, in kind.
And then you have not only the audacity to question, but go on to moan about petty descriptions.
Your body is a tool, your mind is a tool, and your usage of technology to rank where you stand, without one iota about the game of chess, completes the biggest tool of them all.
Fourth, send over a game. I wanna play vs your tool, as you have in-game conversation with me about strategies implemented/potential developments/referenced games/so forth, which I can then post here, after you ahve anihilated me!

RJ, were you really asking for help from GP, or do you have a massive inferiority complex about someone who seems to have a lower grade than you but knows 100 times more about chess?
No ban. It will be sad day if he goes, he sometimes supplies some mild relief.
Also it would appear he has been bullied off the site. (and he will come back).
We just have to put up with him. He has a compulsive disorder to post in every
thread. (and to use the word psychological )
His post in the Ketch's thread '2012 chesscafe.com book of the year'
is a prime example.
The lads were talking about books and the thread was ticking over nicely.
He had to say something, he had to get in there. So we got.
"I have not read any of them."
Which adds nothing at all to the conversation but at least that thread
has been ticked off. It has been RJ'd.
I tend to ignore him unless I'm bored or he has left the ball rolling across
the goal line waiting for someone to tap it in.
Exuma posted a mate in 6. Four minutes later he added it's impossible. (ha ha ha).
So I reckon he has just discovered a hole. This happens, we all do things like this.
I ignored it till RJ in this new thread asked me to help.
So joining in on the fun I gave my 'creative' solution.
(it might be sound. I think SG will testify that sometimes when he posts a problem,
say a mate in 4, some of the lads on here think it's two moves for White and two
for Black. Though in Exuma's case I think not.)
