I'm a new subscriber and I have to add my words to all the players who are living with the cheating fear.
I think it kills the game but more than that it kill this site. I'm a novice player just starting from the bottom so I'm not wasting too much time with cheating players (it seems they are caught when they reach over 2000 rating) but I'm doing better day after day and books are coming and so on.. I don't think next january I'll be renewing my subscription if I will not feel "safe" playing here.
I haven't got easy solutions.. maybe it could be useful to think at some automatic random game checking with a couple of engines and if the user is found with a more then 85% moves martching the site will check his/her other games and after a number of games with this % are found the user is banned or something like that.

Relax, unless you match up with engines move after move, you can improve as much as you naturally can, without fear.

If you lose to a cheater, so what! It will not affect your game or your ability to improve. This is a great site so stick with it.
If someone wants to cheat they will do it which ever site they are on - it is certainly not unique to RHP so have no fear about renewing your subscription.
Also unless your grade rises above 2000 (or even 2200) then you are unlikely to play them except in the very early stages of their membership.

I'd agree with Ragnorak that I wouldn't worry about it so much. In reality, the amount that use assistance compared to how many players there are on the site is very very small. I've been playing a while here and have never even played a player who has since been banned.
The best thing is to play your games as normal and not worry about the whole cheating thing, it very rarely affects players at our level.

I agree with your general point. The only cases where it's really annoying are when they're on the way up and you get hammered for ratings points, and where they take tournaments off non-engine users who don't get the encouragement of having a tournament victory to their name.
I suspect that a very small percentage of moves on this site are made by players getting them from engines, but with thousands of players making many thousands of moves per day, some cheating does occur. These few generate a lot of discussion.
I played a reasonably good game with Mary Ann before she was banned. The tactic that won for her was one I should have seen.

I use to worry far too much about rating, as was suggested just enjoy the games. Have fun with the game !!!

Could be he won't feel safe in improving, because he thinks he might be branded a cheat. Could be how you interpret it.

Could be he won't feel safe in improving, because he thinks he might be branded a cheat. Could be how you interpret it.
