Yes your right, maybe he has time to play h3 and hxg3 somewhere. Bxf6 looks important to stop blacks possibilities of breaking whites pawn structure..

This is hard but I'd guess ne2 is a draw. The bishop cannot move under any circumstances. And neither can the knight after that.

Interesting puzzle we have here. I don't see anything though. Don't feel much like thinking now 😛.

Kg1 ..b1Q#
Kg2!! ..Qc2
Kf2 ..Qd1
Ng1!!

EDIT: The black king is out of the game, white has all the squares covered across the board by pawns that cannot be taken, therefore black has no way to advance.

I don't know if Bxf6 works because black doesn't have to take does he? And after that the bishop has free movement on that whole diagnol so black should be able to pick off pawns after he queens and marches his other pawns down. Or am I missing something?

Black is in check, if he doesn't take the bishop it retreats to e5.

Instead of Qc2, why not Qe1 (winning for Black) ?

Yeah? Is that a bad thing for black? White still can't stop the pawn from promoting and white has 2 free pieces to move. If Black can pick off one pawn he should be able to sac his queen and promote a new one. White would probably lose shortly after since he can't stalemate cause of the free bishop. The bishop can't help anyway since he's trapped on the outside of the position so white should get mated shortly after.

Yes it looks that way. I'm sure we're on the right lines here though...

That's right, if he can! The nature of this puzzle is to find the way he can't. We need to find an answer to Qe1 and then we will solve it i think...

Agreed.

Taking further some ideas suggested by others in this thread...

Ne2 b2
Kg2 b1/Q
Kf2 Qh1 [if e5, Bxf6+ and Bxe5]
Bxf6+ ef [if king moves, Bxe7 and same idea as main line]
Ke3 Qxh2
Kd2
draw

I believe that Black cannot make progress as the White king can circle round the knight.

Why do we care if white takes on h2???
As long as the knight sticks to e2 it defends the c and g pawns and black cannot do anything.
