Anybody own one? I'm curious about its playing strength, the company doesn't mention it and none of the reviews by owners do either, which makes me suspicious.

IMHO - Don't buy it. The board is a bit small, and the reviews of this product are far from golden. You'd be better off subscribing to a good chess website and using your full-size physical board to play your games. Yes - its portable, but so is a notebook computer and your chess set.

Expensive boards that play against you are on average, 2200 strength or higher. So you lose quickly.

The cheapo ones that are about, less than $100 are usually 1600-1800, a more reasonable game and price.

The board your talking about lights up the squares and stuff and that's annoying as F.

The good thing is you can link your chess account and play over the board while playing online.
It probably only works with lichess and chess.com

Yes, that sounds about right from my experience. I've owned 4 different chess computers, going back to 1979 when the 1100 rated Boris Diplomat came out.
I'm looking for a portable chess computer that is at least 2200+ and costs under a hundred dollars, any suggestions?

Hi Cliff-Mashburn,

Mephisto Expert Travel Chess Computer, giving it 20-30 seconds a move.
It is very good. I had one for 14 years. Often played it transferring the moves
to a full sized set, but it was also good as a traveling set. I did not beat it all
the time and you had to be careful, it is cunning.

Do not know the price, shop around, this link shows you what it looks like.

2200 strength and under $100 bucks?

Doesn't exist.

Before chess became popular because of The Queen's Gambit show and COVID, a 2200 board was $350 American.

Due to the recent popularity the prices went up on everything. Lately the popularity has lessened because chess is hard but the prices are still high.

The best you can do for under $100 American is those old small boards that you push the square and then push the other square to make your move.

Then you gotta do the same for the computer.

Amazon has a few and the better ones say 1600-1800 strength.

I just remembered that phone apps are that strong and cheap but no actual boards are that cheap.

I bought a Kasparov chess computer in 1993
It's quite good with lots of features and levels although it obviously doesn't know about the newer openings. It still works fine and my 8 year old granddaughter loves playing with it.
You may be able to get a second hand one on e bay or something
