Good for you. I'll time people out in Clan games as I'm not just playing for myself, in tournament and clan league games the system times players out automatically 2 days after their time bank's expired. I hardly play any challenge games, only against some people I know in 'real life' and one or two players I've met on the site and wouldn't dream of timing them out, the only one of them I timed out hadn't moved for 3 months in any games so I felt justified. If someone's been moving in their other games but not in the ones they've been playing with me then they are more at risk, I use the reminders system as an only and final warning that if they let their timebank run out I'll time them out. I think that that's the best way.

Sicilian Smaug made a point about 5 minute internet games - I don't think that that's really comparable as that is an OTB game played on the internet, this is correspondence chess. With 5 minute games the strategy is often dominated by the time limit on the clocks, even with a 1/0 time limit you can hardly expect to win using that type of approach in correspondence chess.

Disagree with you Smaug, while I admit there are some who are totally rude about winning. My experience with the higher rated players is that they are pretty nice and friendly.

I agree that it was classless. Completely within the rules, but classless. Exceeded only, perhaps, by your own behavior on this thread.

First of all I have to say that I hoped you'll never returned here, but someone messaged me saying you were back,so I thought to take a look at your posts.............and I see nothing changed, always whining about something.

Your opponent did nothing wrong, face it Mateulose, the loss is your fault and now you try to make shame of your opponent.

Certain people never change........

1) Whats that got to do with this thread, and what brought on such a comment?!

2) With the many more people living in the US, id expect the best players in America to be better than the best in Wales, especially with chess being better financed in America too.

I agree with David Tebb. You can't expect this site, or any site (Unless you run the site yourself) to ban a player, for having played by the rules of the game. There is no rule that says that an imminent draw has to be accepted. Your game had an imminent draw, but it was not a draw yet, or you would have been able to claim it by the official rules. If you expect courtesy from your opponent to be enforced, you will not find a place online where you can play chess, because good sportsmanship won't be enforced anywhere. Your opponent's win was cheap, but you can't let something like a supposedly friendly game of chess agravate your life though. Whatever chess site you join, you join to play, not to win. If your paycheck depended on your the game having been a draw, I'd understand your frustration, but then, you probably would have found a way to sign on to make your move.

He posted a game (Game 1353003) without setting up the link and asked the forum who they thought was winning; no one answered due to indifference, the absense of a link, and the in progress nature of the game, presumeably his comments were intended to provoke some kind of response. The game is against AMX who is from Wales and blundered his queen away, hence the stuff about Welsh players being no good.

powershaker: before making comments about the relative chess strength of different nationalities, take a look at the player tables and take a careful look at the flags on that page, especially seadevil's.

When I look at the top 20 on this site I see 1 welsh flag and no american flags. Maybe you know nothing?

To be honest, I think the timeout was a cheap shot. I know it's the rules but the game as it stood was a forced draw. That said, a day lasts 24 hours which is a long time. All this thread tells me is to not bother playing either person.

It would have been unfair if you had a different time constraint as to your opponent. The point is, you both agreed to a 1 day timeout. If your opponent happened to not be able to log in for one day, you would have been well within your rights to claim a win.
