Hey, tom. I just explained this. I know what I'm talking about. You see the clan I lead? Oh wow, look at that, a clan DEVOTED to the KG. And no, you're wrong. 3...g5 is an extremely strong defense vs. Nf3 - for 2 reasons, 1. it defends the extra pawn 2.it gains Kingside space. If, say, Northern Lad, Cludi, or Aging Blitzer who are all better than me ...[text shortened]... u're thinking of the Queen's Gambit, which is completely different than the King's Gambit.

okay it is fine but if your whole game is about holding onto the pawn then against a good opponent you will be punished for not having any counterplay except for trying to make the extra pawn passed and queening it. see what I am getting at here.
Originally posted by tomtom232The whole game is not about holding onto the pawn but an extra pawn will eventually be a win and it should only be given up in exchange for a strategic or tactical advantage that is greater. However, black must develop sensibly and aggressively if he is not to be destroyed down that f file.

The weakness on the f file is actually the single most significant factor in defending the KGA not the pawn per se.

Originally posted by tomtom232You have to understand the value of that f pawn. 1. It keeps the f file half closed, once it gets opened f7 becomes even weaker. 2.It puts more pressure on both the kingside and the middle. 3.It can attack white's knight (on f3) in one move. And if you know what you're doing than you won't compromise the defense of other pawns while trying to defend the f pawn. Stop trying to prove you were right, because I'm done explaining. If you really want to know if you're right go pick up a book on the KG or look it up somewhere.
