Originally posted by moon 111I think the best defence is to accept the pawn but don't try to hold onto it because that is what makes you lose the game. the best attack for white is an attack on the f file.
whats the best deffense (in your opinion) for the kings gambit playing black?
and what about best attack for white
thanks

he's taking part into the KG tournament, thus seeking advice on games in progress...
I do, not that I can find any that help me.
Originally posted by tomtom232Yeah, especially since you gave him horrible advice.
he is asking for lines which means that he is asking for games already played so no harm no foul.
Holding on to the pawn isn't a bad idea, I suggest that unless you play the opening/know the basics of it that you shouldn't give advice.
Moon, you have to be more specific, the KG has two different variations that are common 3.Bc4 and 3.Nf3.
Originally posted by moon 111Tell us the variation you are thinking of. As long as it is not one of your current games I will gladly look at it and suggest viable continuations.
yeah thanks but that i know id preffer if someone could post a good variation i know one tha i like rather risky but i found a nice continuation but i dont know anything else...
Be7 is not a viable continuation for black after either Nf3 or Bc4.
Originally posted by cmsMasterholding onto the pawn is a horrible idea because white can just keep attacking the pawn and if you try to hold onto it he can keep building up an attack until it is too much for black to wheather. also I have played against it and I have never lost as black. But I have lost as white. also the reason why so many games are won for white is just because black tries to hold onto his pawn instead of just letting it go for a gain of tempo.

Since joining RHP I have lost 2 KGA games as white from about 50 and 1 as black from about 6.
Originally posted by tomtom232Hey, tom. I just explained this. I know what I'm talking about. You see the clan I lead? Oh wow, look at that, a clan DEVOTED to the KG. And no, you're wrong. 3...g5 is an extremely strong defense vs. Nf3 - for 2 reasons, 1. it defends the extra pawn 2.it gains Kingside space. If, say, Northern Lad, Cludi, or Aging Blitzer who are all better than me with the KG told me that holding on to the pawn was bad then I'd believe it. BTW:You're thinking of the Queen's Gambit, which is completely different than the King's Gambit.

Originally posted by Dragon Fireokay it is fine but if your whole game is about holding onto the pawn then against a good opponent you will be punished for not having any counterplay except for trying to make the extra pawn passed and queening it. see what I am getting at here.
