Does chess play make you smarter in general? Does it get you to think of new ways to solve problems and benefit you off the board?

I've already answered this question, but since that one was censored, let me recapitulate for the benefit of the moderators: green fields, sunshine, fluffy sheep and Mary Poppins.

Hey Amaurote, i saw your previous post, cant remember anything wrong with it, did you swear or what?
Yes, Smaug, unfortunately I used the fearsomely obscene a-word - presumably the mods felt that small children unaccustomed to swearing might be offended (I'm thinking the kind of small children we used to see in Diff'rent Strokes).

I must say I find the Fox-level censorship on the forums pretty dull: if it meant more people signing up as subscribers, great, I'd see the point - but I think if anything the insipid, wouldn't-say-boo-to-a-goose-type debate it promotes will have just the opposite effect.

Yes i agree totally, I'm wondering if your 'offensive' comment was picked up by a passing mod or alerted by someone, either way it's ridiculous.
I think it's automatic now...

I find that this has formed offensive images of Julie Andrews, George Banks, Admiral Boom with his large cannon, Christopher Plummer, nuns and animals. You are one sick and twisted individual!

I don't think it does. I still only comb my hair once a day, wear odd socks, and leave my braces twisted.
