The lines are insanely sharp, this game was done before the opening phase was even finished.

Oh yeah, sorry it's a PGN.

well I guess its pretty obvious Pirc is the number 1 choice for black. Of course, only players with perfect tactical eye, like me, should play.

1) I agree that Pirc is one of the best choices of black, but its not so obvious for many GMs.
2) Your "tactical eye" is far from perfect.

I was told Pirc is passive. Is it true ? I usually play French and trying to get some Alechine as backup defence.

If you ask the same people, they will probably tell that the French Defence is passive and Alekhine D is just mad.

Edit: they are not, BTW.

Also, The Pirc is not passive, you just develop silently then bombard the enemy pawn center with your pawns, usually with d6-e5. Another strategy is to surround the white pawns center with d6-b5-a6 and get counterplay on the queenside.

Also, interstingly, Alehkine players tend to understand Pirc positions easily. I think that is bacuse of the same pawn structure (c4 d4 e5 f4 pawns).

Pirc is one of the most active openings against 1.e4.

I also recommend Pirc Alert! and Best Lessons of a Chess Coach for players who wnt to learn the Pirc. Below 2000 ELO, it is an excellent surprise weapon.

What I like best about the Pirc defence is it is not so much a tactical opening as it is a battle of ideas. It's especially effective against people who are really strong at tactics but weak in terms of positional understandings. I have never lost a otb tournament game with the Pirc...it's a great opening.

I've always had good success using the 150 attack.

But, I've always been fascinated by the similiarities in 4 openings: the Scotch Game, the Philidor, the Sicilian, and the Pirc.

So, I've often wondered about this:

e4 e5
Nf3 d6
Bc4 Nf6
Nc3 c6
d4 exd4
Nxd4 g6

Black gets a tremendous long diagonal and a half open e-file.
b5 and Be6 are possibilities at some point.

I know this is not an entirely new idea. Any thoughts out there?

Another possible move order:

e4 e5
Nf3 d6
d4 Nf6
Nc3 Nb-d7
Bc4 exd4
Nxd4 g6
Bg5 Bg7
Nd5 c6
Nxf6 Nxf6
O-O O-O

If instead of Bg5:

Be3 Bg7
Qd2 Qe7
f3 O-O
O-O-O (Bh6?! Nxe4 !?) c6 (or possibly Re8 or Nb6.)

Again, this isn't new. It just doesn't get used very often.

I would love to hear some criticism.

20.Qf3 might have been better, trying to infiltrate on the kingside and mate... but that would be my goal, seeing the weakness there. Very good game for the pirc regardless, it shows great potential and I may pick it up sometime soon!
