Mainly because I keep giving away pieces against weaker players then have to spend hours analysing things to try and get back on an even keel.
How can I avoid such exhaustion?
It is easier to just blunder into a mate in 1 as then I don't have to tire myself out trying to salvage things.
Good luck anyway, I hate trying to recover. The only thing worse is that panicked feeling you get when you don't have a plan.

I know I should but it is easier just to move quickly and not spend too much time at it.
Here is an example Game 2850334.
Now I am not saying this guy is weaker than me because I happen to know he is rated 2000+ but what was I doing with my 13th and 14th moves. We are still in book but those moves aren't. Why did I suddenly think I knew better and not bother to check the moves in my book so why did I just make those 2 moves without even thinking and lose a Knight. Unnecessary! Now I'm so depressed I want to give up chess and die.
Well to be honest I know what I was thinking when I played b5, I was thinking 15. Qc4 and wothout looking I was still thinking that when I played NXP but I can't play Qc4. Well I can if I want to lose a Q rather than a Knight.

Game 2868741
Went from a win to a loss in one dumb move. ðŸ˜

I also have made some horrible moves lately. Win to loss in one move seems to be my theme of the week.
The trouble is that I move when I am tired and my mind is not in good shape so I overlook things and blunder.
Game 2825417 dropped my queen and played on to no avail.
Game 2796888 Dropped my queen again!!!
Game 2787648I played well until I dropped my rook in the endgame and now offered a draw in the hopes of mercy. I am going to lose.

Originally posted by Dragon FireIt's because ego is the main motivator. Against a lower player, with an even position, you feel you have nothing to lose, and therefore make your moves casually.

After going down material, the possibility of losing to the underling is suddenly much more real. Conceding to a weaker player is a hateful prospect, and that provides the motivation needed to take pains over your moves and play at your strongest level.
I am struggling with this same problem. There has got to be some way to get motivated before I'm in a lost position...

So as the leader of the french defense clan, I requested that Russ or Chris set up a thematic french tournament which they did. I joined and my pairing in the first round included no one (other than me) above 1300.
To cut to the chase, check out move 9 ...
Game 2827934
after move 9 look at how easily he slaughters while abrely using his extra queen.
Now I am struggling just to advance to round 2

Anywho, play less games but fully concentrate on them. I bet you will get over 2000 if you limit your games to 6 or under.
Instead of spending 2 minutes or whatever you spend, set up a real board and think. Spend 10+ minutes if you have to. For me, it wasn't uncommon to spend 30+ minutes on a move.
Also use a longer timer, I used to play 1/7 but I gave 1/14 a try and it's not bad.
If you can't figure out what to do, leave the game alone, go eat tv sleep, try it next time. I found some nice moves doing this.
And finally, this is the reason I don't consider blitz real chess. You lose so what?
OTB or CC you start losing and you suffer for the whole game. Thus, you want to improve to avoid this punishment next time.

Maybe we should have a blunder tournament. The player who makes the most astounding blunder wins.
