Am i being Erroneously Pedantic in returning to the question why not d2-d3? As the bishop is sadly departed could it not have been captured yonks ago on its home square? Referring to the sg problem obviously.

    Surprisingly, the answer is "no".

    Hint: Reveal Hidden Content
    Consider the black pawn structure.

If you know SG's habits when composing problems a little bit this would have been obvious. 😛 he often uses the trick of the trapped bishop in his problems.

Bonus points: What were the last 3 single moves?

Like he says, what was the last move played by black? That's the key.

Seems some people haven't figured it out yet. We could keep this up longer than Mozart describing his little motif to the king in the movie Amadeus, How long do you think I kept this theme going? King goes, I don't know, 3 minutes? Mo raises his hand a bit, 4 minutes? up with the hand, 6 minutes? up with the hand, no 20 minutes! Probably before you were born but it was a great movie🙂
