The match between Anand and Kramnik will be the highlight of 2008. Anand will be determined to show that he can be other than a one-year FIDE champion (as he was in 1999).

This is not incentive ?
I don't think very many people will recognize Anand as the World Champion unless he defeats Kramnik in a match. Topalov won at San Luis in an even more impressive fashion then Anand is winning here but couldn't beat Kramnik in a match. I don't think Anand will either.

Anand will be World Champion. Its that simple. If no1mar. or some other fans of drawish boring chess wont accept it, then its your loss. Anand is best.

I agree. Anand will probably not be able to beat Kramnik in a match. And I think Kramnik knows that and I think Kramnik prefers to play Anand rather than Topalov in a match for the title. This could explain why Kramnik hasn't played up to his best in Mexico.

Then he should have no problem defeating Kramnik in a match. Of course, people said the same thing before the Kramnik-Topalov match.

lol, this IS his best right now in a tournament...usually he is unable to play for a win...
and, and, losing this tournament just means he will have the right to play a rematch to get the title back...Topalov's option to play for title is still there, Topalov will get the right to play for the title too

You've got to feel sorry for anand in a way, he'll be world champ and world n0: 1, but will still have to beat both kramnik and the winner of the worldcup winner vrs topolov match to be undisputed!🙄

beating Topalov or whoever has no significance. Topalov is a has been thanks to the hard work of his manager.

He will need to win his match against Kramnik to erase the footnote next to his title.

So Vishy wins...

I'm not disappointed 🙂

Though I'm thinking kramnik will beat him in a match situation, so he should enjoy the glory while it lasts

So is there a Vishy-Kramnik match already in the works?
Also, anyone here know if this tourney will put Vishy back over 2800, which he tenuously held last year?

I think that it will be a terrific match, the winner of which will be hard to predict.

Also, we should see a rare thing in such matches: good sportsmanship on both sides.

Isn't what you put into the "New ratings" list the rating performance in this tournament, rather than what the new rating of the players will be?

I think so. I believe anands's new rating at this point was calculated to be 2803 or 2804...
