Despite the adamant denials, so far posted, there is a mate with K+N vs K and pawn(s) I posted the game in this forum a short time ago. The mate is called Stamma's mate and was known as early as the 16th century, or so I have read, and it occured in a game some 10 years past. I was sure about the KxB vs K = no mate
Had some doubts about KxN vs K, but these doubts were like 1%.

A King in the corner has three fleeing squares. So you would need to attack 4 squares with just a King + a piece. The King can attack TWO and the piece (Knight or Bishop) only ONE extra. So the defending King will always have at least one unattacked square to rejoice and can never be mated.

This game received a great deal of notice some years back but not for the normal reasons but for a new kind of mate which gave us a new name (or old) in the literature. Stama's mate. (possibly Stamm) check the last eight moves or so.
