Well at my level it gets to be pretty drawish.

I keep getting these 2 guys since it's a sectional and they always play the ruy lopez exchange...bah!

And the way I play it ..... drawish. Queens come of the board, some minor pieces come off, get the kings in the center and offer a draw several moves later. Pointless to fight on with black in that position ...[text shortened]... I am not to familar with. Be a man and play the open sicilian like it was meant to be, geez...
Closed Sicilian isn't sharp at all - if you lost in that then you just got outplayed.

I never really liked the Closed Sicilian positions that come out for white (I've played a KIAish Closed Sicilian multiple times, mostly after 2. ...e6 variations) but I do believe that it involves a strategic buildup from both sides rather than bloody tactics (*cough* Dragon *cough* selfdestruct *cough*)

Both of you above:

I got outplayed in the opening. Plain and simple.

If you don't know what plans to follow and where the pieces go, you are toast.

I don't know what is going on but if you are canadian and played in rated games between 2004 to 2006 check your rating!

U2200 category, 1 point per game played.

I just got 47 bonus points and I haven't played since end of Feb.

1881!!! Wow!

No wonder everyones rating looked so high recently, now I know why!
Maybe they are doing what the USCF did in the 1980’s with bonus points, feedback points, and “fiddle” points. You could actually gain points just for showing up and playing. I saw players go from 1700’s to 2000+ simply by playing in a lot of tournaments. About that time George Kane won the Marshall Chess Club Championship by a huge score (11-1 or something) and raised his rating about 300 points in that one event!

The technical name was "activity points" which better explains it. They gave you rating points just for playing in a tournament. Simple as that...show up and play and they added points.

I thought showing up and playing would be bonus points?

Well every organization gives you some bonus points if you perform really well so I guess it makes sense.

They should bring something like that system in 1980's back. From what I can see, U2200 Uscf players should have a higher rating. From the other big systems, (Fide, CFC, USCF) Uscf players are under rated.

"Bonus" points are given for scoring better than your rating would anticipate. I don't remember the exact figure because it was so long ago and I had given up OTB play by then, but I seem to remember it was something like 2 fiddle points per round. The people running the ratings committee in those days had limited math experience and were trying to do somethng about deflation and got the system all jacked up.

I agree completely - to say e5 is drawish at below expert level is absurd.

You gotta be kidding! I'm not going to give you my Opening Rep. but

1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 a6 4.Bxc6 dxc6 5.0-0

Very interesting move here by Black, Now get the queens of the board and some more minor pieces. 1 file open only.

How is that not drawish?

Your time is better spent on thinking about the next game, washroom, chatting then wasting hours on that position and ending in a draw.

Point taken!!
