I love to play d4 🙂 While playing black, my response to d4 would have been f5, trying to enter a Dutch system, but is has proven to be unreliable at times, so a simple d5, e6, or d5 then dxc4, accepting the gambit would be more appropriate... here are a few games illustrating the ideas behind d4.:

And that's because I don't feel that comfortable giving up a bishop for a knight. The doubled pawns are well positioned and open up a file for the rook. That seems to be a good compensation.
However, when the day finally arrives that I'm happy with my Nimzo (my choice against d4 - also handy if someone enters the Tromp (1.d4 Nf6 2.Bg5) as I'm learning that as white) then I may allow myself a little affair with the tango: -
1.d4...Nf6
2.c4...Nc6
3.Nc3...e5
4.d5...Ne7
5.g3!?...Ng6
6.Bg2...Bc5
7.e3...0-0
8.Nge2...a6
9.0-0...d6
10.Bd2...Bd7
11.Rb1...b5!
It's dynamic and perhaps perhaps not so well known as blacks other choices...
Some of it's leading players are:
IM Georgi Orlov, GM Viorel Bologan, Nikolai Vlassov - also I've an excellent book on it by IM Richard Palliser - but have had to set this aside for a while until I've made some more progress with the rest of my repertoire and general chess knowledge.
