it took me 2 weeks to get this player into c/mate, he still had 2 pawns, and my last move was c/mate, nailed on but when submitted the site stated STALEMATE. surely if the jobs been done then it should take precedent over stalemate, as obviously it wasn't any more!!!!!!

You walked into stalemate. Here is how you should have finished.

You did not, you stale mated. Please consider how I finished the game compared to how you did. You left no place for the king to move, and by rules that is Stalemate, Not Checkmate.

It is important to know the difference, and find the rules. It will make you better.

all im asking is it wasn't a stalmate if iv'e mated, so why would, even on last go would it override a c/mate

Basically, think of checkmate as a stalemated king that is also in check at the same time.
You must leave the king a square to move to before delivering checkmate or otherwise it's a draw.

Where is the mate? You don't have one.

If you don't check the king, and the king can't move... it is stalemate.

Please look up the definitions of these terms before speaking more on the subject, or you're just going to take heat.

Ah yes, another player who doesn't know the difference between checkmate and stalemate. What a tragedy to get only a draw when a win was right there for the taking!
Why is that so hard for some to grasp? Why even back in the 16th century, William Shakespeare knew:

"I pray you, sir, is it your will
To make a stale of me among these mates?"

Don't worry about it tangerinefish.

I've seen a league player who was stalemated resign because
he thought he was mated.

And an over 2000 International OTB player who agreed a draw in a won
position because he thought he had stalemated his opponent.

Hey, at least this user now understands instead of 'complaining' like some users have about well established moves.
