I sometimes point out moves against people i'm playing against and we are having fun. also if i see that a person will lose with a line that is forced i'll show it to them usually gets them to resign. nothing wrong with showing them whats going to happen in the long run ;-)
I certainly wouldn't point out anything unless I thought it was helpful to my opponents chess improvement and was something he welcomed.

Trash talk only for people I know, but if I feel I have it clearly...

I go along with Sam the Sham. What is to be gained by announcing a forced mate? Only bad feelings can result. I've played very good players a piece up right down to a mate. They know it's coming, but they delay it as long as possible. If you do it to an inferior player, it's like saying, are you too stupid to see what's coming?

It is not being arrogant or rude. Dragging on a lost game is being rude (in my opinion) when it is clear your opponent knows how to win it. People are allowed to do this but I am also allowed to try and cut it short by explaining to him how and why the game will be lost.
Please don't get me wrong - I have never complained to an opponent about him playing on and I respect his right to do so as perhaps he hopes to learn something and I have never put any opponent under any pressure to resign.

Every time the guy moved he hammered my clock with his fist. Needless to say I was pretty upset with his attitude. It didn’t help my mood when he mated me in 8.

it never ceases to amaze me how ridiculously touchy some people are. they can't take any critique without getting overly sensitive about it, no matter how benevolent of correct the critique was.
announcing a mate is like saying "look, you just jumped from the top of a building. you're now plummeting past the top floor window, and there's nothing between you and the next 4 floors to stop you. you will hit the ground. it's over." what's the use of getting pissed off about being told the truth? it's not like you were insulted or anything. and the same goes to any critique.
I don't announce mates, but it's simply stupid to get cross about being told the truth. you made a mistake, no one forced you, so deal with it.
Originally posted by masscatthe problem here wasn't the mating announcement though, was it? the guy was an idiot for calling you names and hitting your clock.

maybe you should've stared him right into his eyes and said: "if you hit my clock with your fist again, mister, I'm hitting your face." then if he hit again, smack him immediately. however it turned out, the word would get out and nobody would hit your clock again, ever. 🙂
"oh, you're playing that crazy old geezer next. remember, what ever you do, don't hit his clock. he will swing right at you. and they say he stabbed an opponent once."
😀
Never stabbed anybody…but I like the thought. I could have done what IM Bernard Zuckerman did to a noisy spectator that wouldn’t shut up. He grabbed a B off the board & threw it at the guy. Then when he tried to make the guy give it back the spectator refused and told him, “I’m not giving it back! Play without it *******!” The TD finally told they guy to keep it and got Zuckerman another one so he could continue his game.
I think your missing a point. I have found myself in a losing position many times, and not infrequently from making a move too fast and missing the proper move. The other guy can do the same thing. If it is ok to reap the benefit of my haphazard move, then it should be ok for me to try for the same benefit.
I agree some times a person should resign, but there is always the outside of a heart attack, earthquake, or being born again christian fellowship. I will hold out for the heart attack. In the meantime, stalemate is always a possibility. Like some of us, hitting the wrong key happens. If one can benefit from it, both should benefit from such blunders.
I'm in a race with the calander (very old) so if I have the time to drag it out, why not?
One last thing. I presently have a game with a very well known player at this site. They are using the 14 day. They have a very lost game. They go the distance on every move now. Do you think they know how old I am??????

I wouldn't do it unless I'd blundered against a much weaker player.
There's no excuse to draw an easily won ending on c.c where you generally have 3 days to check a move.
Take Game 3852855.
Even a complete patzer would struggle not to win as black from the blunder on move 34.
