Fist of all i must say that I realize Im not good enough to worry about rating points. I seem to read alot of posts where people live and die by a point. One user acually was worried down to the decimal point! I also read in a post where a player said it doesnt matter in "online games" because of the PC abuse.Do you guys care a great deal about your ratings? how bout the top rated players, do they care more or less?

I think once you get past 1800 the rating becomes less important as that is the final boundary that you could play in lower ranked tournaments - the only goal from there is to move up to the first page.

I care about mine quite a bit today as I am one point away from 2000, a rating I have always been quite keen to obtain but have never put in enough effort to deserve it until recently.
I feel like getting this will be a reward for the hard work and time I have put in to my game for the last couple of months.

Ok, but what if JoeSHmoe comes along with a 1230 rating and uses his Chessmaster5millon and beats you? if you really cares about your rating that would really stink.so how can you care?

Tracking one's rating over time indicates whether the player is learning from his or her losses and getting better.

I just hate it when you boast about getting to 2100 when I only managed 2087.

My aim is to get to 2109 (although not at any cost). I care a great deal about that!

I have had punks cheat against me before, it is just part of the game I guess. I have adopted a policy of treating all opponents as being able to beat me so I would at least have got some way into the game before it became evident that he was playing much higher then his rating suggested, then I might try what I could to draw the game, or even stall it for as long as possible and hope his cheating gets discovered before it finishes.

yeah, me too, A master called Jack Rudd taught me some principals for it and it seems that unless black plays very precise moves in the opening he will have real trouble activating his pieces.

Although, Kg2 by me was probably a mistake in this game, I didnt like the idea of the bishop on b7 being activated by some sort of quick sacrifice before I had chance to mobilise my attack.
