The times I've seen this before I usually see a knight move, either Ne2 or Nf3. Usually that bishop pins my knight or stays at d2 or something. I'm not sure e3 is that horrible though. It looks odd but I don't think it is too bad.
i'm not sure that it gains you much of an advantage...
but it definitally equalizes everything...
