Toying with non-resigners

Toying with non-resigners

Only Chess

I quite liked the ending mate. I had Black and won a piece early on, but my 2000-rated opponent would not resign.

Am I a Sadist for enjoying this?

Well you could argue that it serves him right for not resigning.....

But yes, there is also an argument for your being a sadist.

EDIT:- And yes, very nice mate

I expect he carried on hoping for you to be careless and give him a stalemate.

Haha, yes. Needless to say, I checked every move before I moved that his King had a move.

I'm sure he enjoyed getting mated like this. It must have been quite a show.

Was hoping to see three or four more knights on the board -- an entire cavalry chasing down the lone king.

I haven't had anything to drink so I'm not seeing things, but can someone tell me why white didn't pick the pawn up at move 3 with 3. Nf3?? Nxe4

Often on blitz type games you will find people carry on to the end in the hope that their opponent :-

* gives them a stalemate
* might be drunk
* might loose on time etc
* internet connection might drop,

Not saying that is what happened here but a few possibilities.

That's what I had intended to do, but then saw the "line of 4 pawns on the 2nd rank" mate and just couldn't resist it.

Black was so intent on the expected opening setup that he missed the free pawn. 😞

That was an absolutely delightful finish!

I will often underpromote against passive-aggressive non-resigners, such as promoting 3 or more pawns to knights and then stampeding the enemy king to death.

Sometimes I will be on the brink of checkmating the non-resigner and then resign myself as a joke.

That was what I thought, hoping for stalemate but with someone near 1900 that would not happen, great looking mate though, got a giggle out of meπŸ™‚

I thought it was a good lesson for him!
