My head is now out of the clouds and my rating is much closer to a realistic one... those last two games blew.. i'll let tomtom have the glory of posting them... man i suck.. someone has to give me some advice... placebo or not i need a system to get back on track!
Originally posted by TyrannosauruschexI too tried to break 2100 but failed, 2087 being the closest I got after 4 time outs against strong, highly rated opponents (2 to EveRyDay). Unfortunately when you take your wins trying to get your rating up your losses mount and you come down to earth with a bang.
I am not looking forward to losing my highest rating either, I suspect it will be coming sometime in the near future - I have the choice of either pushing hard to try and break 2100 first or save the wins to sustain my rating at its current level once I have resigned the lost positions.
Generally instead of dtriving for ratings glory I tend to take my losses as they come and that way your rating stays much more stable. Unfortunately my graph stays far too horizontal due to wins that get me few or no ratings points and I still have a back log of "lost" games that I expect will pull me down below 2000 in due course.

you ain't no 1800 btw.
3 months ago you were barely 1550.
My rating has risen a little lately (albeit into the 1600s, not into the 2000s), but I found I was worrying about ratings too much. I finally downloaded ouroboros' grease monkey script that hides the ratings in the games page. Now, hopefully, I can just worry about the chess and let the rating take care of itself.
I also catch myself playing games differently against higher versus lower rated players. I hope hiding the ratings will eliminate this.

Thanks for the vote of confidence though 😉.
