My impression was that Korch was not just saying that some super strong players were not wise in areas besides chess or that they lacked knowledge in certain fields, but that they may actually have low intelligence. It's similar to saying someone failed a class because of stupidity rather than lack of study. There is a difference and this is what some don't agree with.
