It seems to me that you are selecting here match ups within .05 centipawns rather than the 1st 3 engine moves presumably after giving an engine a fixed time to think about each move.
If that is the case I have absolutely no problem with this. My problem was with always counting as a match the 1st 3 moves and possibly more.
I also agree that ...[text shortened]... d to get an appropriate sample. If used carelessly statistics can be used to prove anything.
As pointed out several times already, I didn't do this. I gave the data as match ups with the first three recommendations (as the Game Mods requested) OR match ups with 1st Choice or within .1 centipawns (as I preferred). Again I will say that the difference in result over many games is not significant.

As that comment seems to be directed to me, please explain where I have used statistics "carelessly".

yes that was quite a spectacular turnaround.
Was up for it at first but now seen what has happened to you guys.
More things in life to worry about than a handful of Elmers
using chess engines to scam a few really meaningless grading points.
(Korch won blitz 2-1).

Ahhh.... the old hide your head in the sand and hope the problem magically goes away trick. *burp*
...and as for burying my head in the sand.
It's better than having my head up my ass worrying about a few
Elmers using engines to scam a few miserable grading points.
Originally posted by greenpawn34It's a chicken and egg thing greenpawn, and for you the problem doesn't exist because you actively choose to ignore it and don't play games here beyond blitz precisely because you don't want to play engine cheats. So the "problem" is bigger than you pretend it to be.
For me the problem no longer exists...
Yes I've always avoided on these sites because I thought I'd
be playing engines all the time.
This is not the case I'm now on my 12th.game and not a wiff
of silicon in the air. Just good chess with human blunders.
If it happens - it happens. I won't worry about it.
The chicken and the egg...interesting....what came first?
The egg.
Who laid the egg? A dinosaur - chickens, as are all birds,
are descended from the dinosaurs.
Next question?
Though to be fair we should really be trying these things out
on the Posers and Puzzles Forum.
(I hear they use pocket calculaters there.....cheats!!)

Good, then we agree!
No1. As that comment seems to be directed to me, please explain where I have used statistics "carelessly".
Not directed at you If I gave that impression I apologise. It is a general comment that if one is not careful statistics can be twisted to prove anything.

I was actually looking forward to the findings.
I think using a computer to catch a computer is cheat may be flawed.
The guy may be using Fritz 8 and you are looking
for him using RYBKA. To carry out a true test surely you
would have to know the engine he is using.
Also there are some good players on this site who would match a
box for perh ...[text shortened]... and what
clinched it.
That way you guys who play a lot will know what to look out for.
but are you sure?
🙂
