Often you think so hard that your head hurts, you work hard at study, do whatever you can to prepare for games, then after a long game, you lose off a silly little slip up blunder, or even worse, you lose to a complete nobody your sure might be using an engine (common occurance online), it's all so frustrating, the young chess player feels like smashing things and quiting. Usually when they vent at you, their not angry at you as an individual, they are angry at themselves, or the time they spent studying chess that seems wasted, or their insomnia from staying up late at night and not being able to stop the game and rest then lose, or the latest 1100 rater who suddenly jumps to 2100, beating you off many times, and you're sure he uses an engine, but he has friends in high places and thus stays on the site, and in 1 hour he gets a rating you couldn't after years of study and work, or maybe they are just angry at the game altogether, like maybe they feel en-passant is a lame rule, or that players should actually study their openings like them instead of playing Qf3 on move 2, etc...
Why are so many chess players up their own arses?
When I'm playing chess I play the game and win, lose or draw am modest about it. Why do so many chess players have such ego trips where they tell each other things like "Im much better than you" or "You suck" or something like that?
Whatever the reasons, they are not angry at you, they don't even know you, it's hard to explain, but I'm sure every chess player here knows what I'm talking about especially with the examples I have given...

welcome back mate,
D
And last but not least, this is what makes a chess player crazy while playing here. You are busying thinking up a great combination, and then suddenly, you need to crap, there's no denying nature, you must crap, then you come back later, forget what you were doing, then blunder, I'm sure this has happened to us all.

Originally posted by zakkwylderOh, I definately hate that, when they yell stuff like, "mate in 5" within 10 seconds of a complicated position you must think over. And here is what I cannot stand the most, when they totally destroy you, smile, and say, "good game, you played very well!" I played like crap, I don't need you trying to make me feel better with sarcasm...
one thing i cant stand, is when a player goes, "mate in 3". i cant stand that. i know im in a situation i cant get out of, be respectful and not add insult to injury. that is rude if ive ever seen it.
