I've heard a knowledgeable IM say "veek on zay"

Whats with all the predictions of KRamnik winning? His style just isn't suited to winning tournaments. That requires lots of decisive games. Kramnik is more of a match player who is happy to take draws until he sees a small mistake which he pounces on and slowly converts to a win (an excellent match strategy). That isn't to say he can't play more aggressivly, but historically he doesn't. Topalov's game is much more suited to winning a tournament like this. That said, I am going with a dark horse of either Aronian or Svidler pulling it out.

The "ij" sounds more like "i" than like "ee".

My guess would be 'Week-On-zhee (soft z sound)'.

vik on zay (long i) is Yasser's pronunciation

No, I meant "i" like it's pronounced in the alphabet, although that's not very accurate. According to the site I linked to, this is how the "ij" should be pronounced: "Try to pronounce AY as in the english word MAY, but replace the A sound with the sound of the short dutch vowel E..."

Darn, Magnus lost. He missed the winning move, and then it only went downwards. 🙁

After missing winning move Magnus still could make draw, but looks like he tried to exploit opponents zeitnot and played too careless.
