Just got mine. A draw against a 2100! I did this OTB this season but this is by far my best result online.
Game 4384675
Playing the black side of the (in)famous 6...a6 defence in the Morra, popularised by Larry Evans & Henriqué Mecking against Ken Smith in '72.
How about you guys - any 1600's out there actually beaten a 2100?
Originally posted by droflaceYeah I know it's a shame. I didn't write down the moves. Maybe my opponent has a record but other than that I'm only sure about the first 8 or 9 by both & the last couple, because the game has been played over quite a long period (for me anyhow).
Mate, your game has a corrupted move history... I was looking forward to checking it out too.
Is the final postion a draw?
I think he has a distinct advantage & just offered it because he got through to the next round.
Yeah, I just edited my post about the drawing chances of that position. I think its a probably a win for white, but if all he needed was a draw through to the next round I can see why the two passed pawns could make him nervous. Good work to get him to a position where he has to think twice about his ability to beat you.
When G/30 was in its infancy, I beat a Master on time in a losing position. (I was rated about 1900 at the time.)
In a "slow" game, I once drew a Master with more than a little help from a Master friend of mine who, during the adjournment (they had those many years ago) showed me how to draw a difficult pawn+minor piece endgame.
Winning my round 2 group in Tournament 1656
I won round 3 also, but it wasn't quite the same category of accomplishment.
My favorite long, grinding game, which also had a fairly exciting ending.
Game 3787382
And these are probably my most solid games.
Game 3014937
Game 2604164
And my best straight win.
Game 3034548
not against high rated players, but at a time when I was much lower rated...these two games meant alot to me:
Game 3418470
in this game, i was able to get up a pawn. After that I used endgame knowledge to help win a special R & P v R endgame where my king is ahead of the pawn. This was the first time I really really applied endgame know-how in my planning process.
and
Game 3352010
i analyzed the risks...and decided to go for it. I was just happy to get out of this one alive

But that doesnt take away from the fact that it is an excellent result getting to such an endgame against someone so good. Played!

a Win over Taavo Game 2504043
I also have:
draws with the 2005-2007 RHP Champions
Cludi Game 3638342
Quirine Game 1564330
Draw with Tequilla Game 2672075
More than one win over Red Night.
Game 1996075
Game 1996056
Game 3037910
Game 3037913 (this last one is the best as RNs main mistake was wasting time and not developing while in the others he made moves out of sequence or simply miscalculated)
For good measure here's one of my favorite wins (over APB former 2100, 19xx when we played). I had just started really crunching the tactics and the finisher Bxg6 just jumped out at me =)
Game 3232423
I once beat someone with an ECF grade of 220 (about 2350 FIDE). I believe he was the thirteenth highest player in Britain at the time). It was on board 2 of a match between Maidstone and Hackney. Matthew Sadler, who was on board 1, just kept looking at our game with a disgusted look on his face.
When I tried to show my teammates my brilliancy in the pub later on it turned out to be complete rubbish and my opponent even had good chances of drawing at the point he resigned.
My two greatest ever wins
Game 853210 A mere 18 moves to destroy a 1900+ player
and
Game 971127 An excellent game against a true gentleman.
What was even better for me was the fact that in both games I won playing as black.
Now if only I could play that well in all my games I'd have a better rating than I currently do 😉
EDIT : Spot the glaring mistake I made in the first game but got away with 😉
