How far would you go to open up your opponents king? About 2 hours ago in a league game a guy about 1400 (im 983 but higher than my grade says) gave a peice to get rid of 2 pawns nfront of my king. He had an open file with a rook, another kinght, 2 bishops + a queen ready to attack but i only had a knight, bish and pawn defending my king. I survived for about 35 moves before resigning (i had almost no space left and he was crushing me in).

How much would you give to open up a king? Thanks

I'll give up any amount of material if I know for sure I can get the King.

Consider:

White to move

White is in check, but Black's King is the one in danger.
1.Qxf4!! Bxf4 2.Rxh5! gxh5 3.Rxh5 and Black is helpless against the threat of 4.Rh8#. I especially like how none of White's moves even give check; the dark squares around the Black King are simply weak. The sequence reveals white's Bf6 as the most valuable piece on the board.

im playing a national league game tomorrow. I decided im going to play aggressively, adopting some "risky" lines of Pirc. and if I get a decent chance, I will definitely attack with pawstorm.

good news is that I know these Pirc set-ups pretty well
bad news is that my opponent is rated 2114 🙂

Careful. Scratching your opponent could get you disqualified.

Slow down there buddy. Deciding to be agressive is one thing. Deciding how to be aggressive depends on the situation. Why don't you access your situation and then decide how to deal with it?

I think the premise of the question was that there was some uncertainty about the ability to make the kill.

It goes without saying that a sure check-mate is worth sacrificing any material.

The question, as I understood it, was not how much material you would give for a sure checkmate. The answer to that, obviously, is any amount. But how much would you give up just to destroy a King's pawn cover is a much spikier question. For me, it really does depend on the position of my pieces (if the King is wide open but all my pieces are cringing on the back rank what am I going to mate with?) I will usually sac the exchange on f6 or c6, and if he has advanced his h-pawn or a-pawn one square I will usually sacrifice a piece for it and the pawn protecting it.

I got a draw. but my opponent wasnt 2100 guy, but some low 2000-rated player. im so disappointed. I should have won

Hard to say. I'm much more likely to sacrifice a great deal against a higher-rated player, ironically, because in one-sided games against vastly-superior opposition I tend to look for perpetual check options as early as the middlegame.
