In the US we have seen about 3k covid deaths for our population below 30. Is this number of deaths enough of a reason to shut down beaches where kids can get out and enjoy life while getting some exercise in the process?

People under 30 do not live in a vacuum, once they leave the beach they go back to their parents and grandparents or the 50 something guy with diabetes who has to drive the bus that takes them to and from the beach.
It also sounds like an ideal setting for another variant to be developed.

Why not educate people to stay away from the elderly? Just have a lock-down on the elderly.

Instead our governments shuts down life for everyone and puts covid patients into retirement homes.

You support that stuff, so you are just as evil as the people who did it.

It is bad pandemic policy, it belongs in science. Actually it is appropriate for both.

All you know about science is how to spell it. Go back to Debates where poor reasoning is expected. You're not providing enlightenment.

Have you looked at the numbers in the table I linked?

So what do you want to discuss science wise about the numbers. It was quite clear from the beginning that the illness hit the oldest hardest.
How you try to curb the pandemic is a more political than scientific topic.

Sciense provides insights such as:

* Contagion is slower (not zero) when everybody wears mask.
* Cantagion is limitied if you limit the number of contacts.
* Vaccination reduces the number of carriers
* vaccination reduces the ffects of the illness when people get it.

Do you think the 50yr old with diabetes should be sacked and told to stay home so that younger people can have a covid party on the beach.
The science is telling us we need to tone down our social lives if do not want anither complete lockdown.

I believe he should be treated just like everyone. Perhaps if he decides to stay home the government can give special help to older people. Of course he could choose to keep working.

The complete lock-down was the decision of old geezers who do not care about the young.

Complete lockdowns are the decision of medical experts who care more about their patients of all ages than the egos of spoilt brats of all ages. Politicians hate lockdowns because they cost votes and disrupt their publicity jaunts.
